I have a great studio here in Vancouver at Parker Street Studios. It is in a gigantic, wooden, maze-like structure. It is truly amazing that it exists at all.
I got a studio here after years — and I mean decades — of painting in my home in very tiny spaces. Small bedrooms, my living room floor, for a while I was even set up in a basement storage room between stacked boxes and a low ceiling. It was always fairly squishy and not ideal, but here in Vancouver even a little extra space is a luxury.
Then I lucked in to this shared studio space last August and I count my lucky stars every time I go to work there. I so appreciate not having to put all my projects and paints away every time I work. I so appreciate being able to work on multiple pieces at a time. I so appreciate the light that streams in. And I so appreciate my studio mates. Even though we don't work at the same times that often, I really like sharing the space with them.
