A Tangled Alphabet

I have been working on an alphabet for the past year. It is finally done! Or at least I am calling it done. I could keep tinkering with it for another year I am sure.

It started with 26 hand drawings of the basic shapes, followed by 26 hand-inked drawings, which were then scanned and cleaned up. This was followed by creating a number of visual elements like ink marks, fingerprints, watercolour circles and such, which were also scanned and cleaned up. Then I created 26 files, which would each grow to have many, many layers. I laid all 26 out on a big poster sized file so I could see them all at once, and began the long process of building up each letter and ensuring each worked with all the others in terms of colour palette, balance, position, and personality.
